Banasura chose Siva to be the protector of his city.
I offer respects to you who are a desire tree which fulfills all desires.
Since you can fulfill all desires, you should dissipate my sorrow. Except for you, there is no one equal to me for fighting. This implies "If you mericfully fight with me, then I will be freed of my sorrow from my unsatisified urge to fight. Defeating you, I will become famous as the conquerer of all directions."
Wanting to fight the elephants of the directions with my arms intensely itching with the desire to fight, O original persons ( adya), I went out with the intention of becoming famous as the conquerer of all directions, by conquerering all except the north east direction where you reside. When I rushed mountains in order to relieve my arms of their itching, the directions became afraid. Therefore please tell me, how can I relieve myself of this urge of battle except by fighting with you? And without relieving myself of this itching, how can I remain peaceful? Therefore do not find fault with me.
Siva became angry on hearing those words. First he thought that he would kill Banasura. Then he thought, It would be improper to kill with my own hands my servant. If, having attained my mercy, this strong man proudly thinks that his thousand arms are a burden, then my master who relieves the world of its burden will take away his burden. Considering this, Siva spoke with anger.
When your peacock flag breaks spontaneously, you will fight with someone equal to me. He states this to satisify Banasura.
The real meaning however is: You will fight with a person whose has splendour. ( sa means with and ma means splendor).
When Banasura, having no intelligence (kumatih), heard Siva say to him "Your pride will be destroyed in battle, fool", he considered with low mind, "It is impossible that my pride can be defeated in battle. But it can be inferred from Siva's words that someone strong will come to relieve me the itching in my arms."
Thus he became joyful. He, being very foolish, then began eagerly to wait for that moment when his flag would break, which, according to the words of Siva, would indicate the destruction of his power.
10.This verse described the prelude to the battle predicted by Siva. The cause of the enjoyment with Aniruddha in dream state is described in the Visnu Purana. Seeing Parvati enjoying with Siva, Usa desired to take shelter of her. Parvati, who understands everyones heart, spoke to her. "You should not worry. You will enjoy with your husband. "
Hearing this, Usa began to think, "When wil this be? Who will be my husband?"
Parvati said, "On the sukla dvasadi of vaisakha month, that person who appears in your dream will be your husband."
13.I do not see your husband (hasta graham) now, since you are not married.
I will relieve your distress if he is available (bhavyate) in the three worlds.
Citraleakha said, "Among all these men, who is your husband?"
Seeing Pradumnya, Usa became embarassed, understanding that he was her father in law. Seeing his son Aniruddha, she repeated twice out of astonishment and joy," This is he. This is he." It is understood that Usa then wrote the words "Aniruddha, the son of Pradumnya" above the picture.
When she found it impossible to enter Dvaraka, Narada taught her some special powers (yogam asrita), according to the Hari Vamsa. Some say that Citralekah herself was an expansion of Yogamaya. Having returned to Sonitapura, she showed Aniruddha to Usa.
Usa took him to her quarters, impossible for other men to enter (duspreksya).
Usa honored him with various services described in this verse.
25 Seeing the condition of Usa, by symptoms of her indulgence, the chief of which was her great joyfulness, which could not be concealed, the female guards (bhata) reported to Banasura.
The guards went and told Banasura, fearing that he would punish them if he found out from some other source. "W have seen signs of improper acts of your unmarried daughter, which spoil the reputation of your family."
Aniruddha (madhva) raised his club made of iron (murva).
With tears in her eyes, she cried (arautsit). Banasura was able to capture Aniruddha, the supersoul of the jivas, whose expansion is the lord of svetadvipa, only because of the lord's lila sakti.
In this chapter, Aniruddha associates with Usa, the daughter of Banasura, and is imprisoned by him after being brought to Usa by Citralekha.
